Average Customer Ratings:

Starting with an introduction to materials and tools, this idea-packed book then shows arts and crafters myriad techniques for transforming standard ceramic pieces into beautifully ornamented, one-of-a-kind treasures for personal or gift use.
The book is divided into five sections, each devoted to techniques designed for the category of ceramic to be decorated: damp and unfired ware; leather-hard ware; dry ware; dry bisque-fired ware; and glazed ware. Explained and shown in detail are decoration methods such as incising, carving, casting, sgraffito, engobes, colored pastes, fillettes, reserves, waxes, and many other ways to enhance the surfaces of ceramic pieces.

CUSTOMER REVIEWS:
Decorating Techniques -

A great little comprehensive book with innovative and new ideas. A must to any collection of pottery books.
- The home of teak outdoor furnitures

, simply quality bar stools
Great Illustrations -

Excellent illustration of the methods of decoration. I wish there was more to the book, every method contained was clearly demonstrated, a very useful reference material for the serious pottery student.
Great ideas -

This overview of decorating tips for both wheel and handbuilding contains numerous great ideas that I would like to try plus easy to follow instructions for most of the techniques. It is a perfect book for any potter who wants to expand their decorating reportoire.
Pretty good -

Some of the design is old-fashioned in our country, but the recipes are accurate and work well. I tried the tobacco stain recipe and it worked well for me. Good, clear instructions.

Great selections of branded hammocks at
- surely the ultimate teak furniture store!
A great intro or overview; don't expect details -

This is a very useful book to introduce students to a very wide range of possible decorating techniques for a wide range of pottery steps (wet, leather hard, bisque fired, glazed). There are several projects outlined at a very high level, but these seem to be for some of the more common decorating techniques. Not an awful lot of time is spent on most of what I would think of as the more uncommon techniques. But at least you have an introduction to those techniques.
This is a great book as a quick reference to get the wheels turning in your head, but there's not a lot of "how-to" behind it; a lot of inspiring photos, but not a lot of text.
