It’s easier than you think to transform inexpensive ceramic jugs or other stone containers into true works of art or turn thrift store plates into dinnerware worthy of the swankiest café. The professional advice starts with choosing equipment and stenciling the designs, followed by more than 100 color photographs showing proper use of flat, round, and liner brushes to create a range of effects. There are great project ideas and patterns for every month of the year. Try the graceful lines and striking colors of the “Lilies for May,” which uses acrylic paints in a “floating” technique to bring life to a drab bud vase. Or December’s “Holly” design, which artfully blends accent colors to turn ordinary serving pieces into the extraordinary.

CUSTOMER REVIEWS:
Painting on Porcelain and Ceramics -

I have recently started painting porcelain. I paint with the powder and mediums that must be mixed, painted and then fired in a kiln. This book touched lightly on this subject, then went on to cover the new paints that can be baked in the oven, and other decorative paints. I wish I would have known that there was so little information on the paints that need to be fired.
Her paintings and ideas in the book are very nice.

This is not a book about china painting! -

This book is gorgeous and shows many aspects of decorative painting technique-- but its title is misleading. It is not the "complete" guide-- the artist/author is using acrylic paints only, not the traditional china paints. The disadvantage of acrylics is that they are not recommended for eating surfaces, which Hauser acknowledges. In my mind, that makes them inappropriate for dinnerware. True china paints, fired in a kiln, are much more appropriate for this purpose. Her designs and painting techniques can probably be used with china paint, but one would have to know how to mix and fire the paints. A better choice for china painting would be Porcelain Painting With Uwe Geissler (A Schiffer Craft Book) That said, Hauser's projects are lovely for purely decorative pieces.

Although I haven't had an opportunity to do the painting, I do see the instructions that I needed to do my projects. I needed the instructions on how to do the painting and this book has what I needed.
