Average Customer Ratings:

Glass beadmaking has become a crafting phenomenon, and this colorful reference features a rich repertoire of creative ideas. Splashed across the splendid pages in eye-catching photos are all the most popular types of beads, accompanied by the newest, most innovative techniques. The instructions begin with the basics: how to light the torch, wind and cool the bead, and shape the glass into barrels, cones, and discs. As beadmakers' skills develop, they can expand their horizons by experimenting with enamel; using mica dust to form an iridescent sheen; and applying silver, gold, and copper leaf to layers of glass. The most advanced projects are truly remarkable, from floral and sculptural beads to beads that encase images of stars, rainbows, and faces. A Selection of the Crafters Choice Book Club.

CUSTOMER REVIEWS:
Great beginner's book and overview -

I'm just starting to work with glass. This book was great to read through cover to cover while waiting for my equipment to arrive. The format of the book makes the content very approachable and the photos are excellent. It's not as comprehensive as the title would imply, but the information is excellent for the beginner getting started.
The first chapter gives a detailed overview of equipment, tools, safety and supplies. Even though I'd taken a class and learned from professional bead makers, the safety and tools sections were incredibly useful to solidify what I'd learn and fill in gaps.
The rest of the book takes you through bead shapes and decoration. There are several pages and many photos devoted to each bead shape, technique or trick. From the looks of some of the beads Adams specifically gives instructions for (spiral seashell, Aegean urn), there's enough here to keep the bare beginner going for a while.
I'll be referring to this book along with Deanna Griffin Dove & Marjorie Langston's "Just Plain Beads!" for the next few weeks! (Just Plain Beads has more "if your bead has problem x, then try fixing it with this technique" info, while The Complete Book of Glass Beadmaking" has more techniques and safety/equipment information.)

I have this book from my local library. I like to preview books from there sometimes prior to buying to see if it is what I want. And this one definitely is! Very comprehensive, well laid out, excellent illustrated instructions, beautiful work. It is a visual treat just to look at. You could actually have it as a coffee table book it's got such beautiful photography.

Excellent book for bead making refreshment and new ideas -

I took a beadmaking class almost a year ago and decided to start again. This book goes into great detail on how to make your first bead and add much detail, refreshing my memory quite well. I also like the author's tips on how to use items around the house to incorporate into bead work and how to make your own frit. The author is very detailed on each bead making tool, types of glass rods, types of gases to use, and other bead making techniques. There are also numerous colored pictures of glass beads also to give new and inventive ideas. Highly recommended to both the novice and intermediate glass bead maker.
