Please, don't waste your money on this book. It is so poorly written. Information must be ferreted out and then it often is incomplete and/or confusing. For example, on page 121, diagrams of the three means of heat transfer are given. In conduction heat moves directly from one hot object to another with which it is in contact. In the conduction diagram, the bottom of the pot, where it touches the brick floor, is heated by conduction; the bottom of the pot then heats the rest of the pot by conduction. But, the entire pot is also heated by radiation. This is not explained and the diagram is not clear. The heat waves are labeled as flames and the explanation, "*heat waves move upwards from heat source (flame)", refers to radiation, not conduction. And, the asterisks are further confusing because they do not refer to anything prior. The chapter, "Glaze Chemistry", does not really tell us anything about the chemistry of glazes. The terms "clay" and "clay body" are used interchangeably. I could go on and on. Overall, the book could use a thorough review by a knowledgeable ceramic chemist and a thorough editing by a competent writer. I expected better from this author.
